I began drafting this letter on International Women’s Day and the morning after we shot the photo for this cover. Unfortunately, due to timing and scheduling conflicts, not all the women featured in the issue could participate. What was most rewarding to me was the opportunity to introduce the five women to each other, hear them exchange stories, and watch them pose for the photo so effortlessly, as if they had been lifelong friends.

The next day I realized it was my own third anniversary of the magazine. My mission: to explore and celebrate the local food culture throughout Vermont. Through this initiative, it is gratifying and humbling to see how the supply chain and network among farmers, foodies, the restaurant community, and home chefs have connected.

I am thankful for all the wonderful women who participated in this issue—those who are featured and those who help create it. New beginnings, community, camaraderie, and support. Featured are Tracey Medeiros and the new release of the tenth anniversary edition of her Vermont Farm Table Cookbook; Mary Lou Ricci, who left the insurance business and has revitalized The Hermitage Inn with her husband Tim Hall; Dr. Sheila Patinkin, former pediatrician and world-renowned Wagyu cattle farmer, who now serves as president of the American Wagyu Association; international chefs Sigal Rocklin of Israel, Maria Lara–Bregatta of Dominican and Italian heritage, and Thai native Rung Morgan, 2022 James Beard Award winner; Leslie Kielson of Battenkill Wholesome Foods; Nicole Citro of Cole’s Cookie Co.; Jess Messer, creator of Savouré Sodas; Deborah Aldrich, founder of Stockbridge Community Meals; and pastry chef Amanda Wildermuth, 2023 James Beard Award semi-finalist.

Thank you to my talented and creative support team: Maria Buteux Reade, Heidi Humphrey, Carol Jessop, Marisa Crumb, Laurie Caswell Burke, Mary Ogle, Robin Kramer, David Barnum, AND to my husband who is always there for the heavy lifting.

Happy springtime to all!
