About this recipe

By Asha Carroll, Chef/Owner of Cake in a Crate

Lucky for you and your pup, these homemade dog biscuits are so simple to make, you can bake them up anytime Wafflenugget (or Sparky or Fido) has a hankering for something sweet. Made with just a few wholesome ingredients, they’re also free of wheat, dairy and added sugar, so you can feel good about indulging your dog while you go ahead and enjoy your own cookies.

Instructions

Makes 15–20 medium biscuits

2 tablespoons ground flaxseed

¼ cup water, boiling

⅓ cup unsweetened applesauce

½ cup natural peanut butter

1 cup gluten-free oat flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

2 tablespoons carob powder

Pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 350°.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. In a medium bowl, mix ground flaxseed with boiling water. Let sit for 5 minutes. Stir in applesauce and peanut butter until well combined. In another medium bowl, mix together the oat flour, baking powder, carob powder and salt. Fold the flour blend into the batter, kneading with hands until a dough forms. Turn dough onto a flat surface, and roll to a ¼- to ½-inch thickness. Then cut into dog biscuits with cookie cutter. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until just crispy. Be careful not to overbake, as carob can burn easily. Let cool and store in an airtight container.
